Tesco Buttershaw 2139 Safety , Security, Customer Service Failures

The Community are generally  concerned about Security  Safety and ineffective senior  management at the Buttershaw Store

On 10th August 2018 there was an issue with the Cash machine not issuing money due to a defective mechanism that had likely been interfered with. The machine failed to dispense notes but deducted it from the card balance. In effect the customer was allegedly I believe  robbed by TESCO before he could go in store to shop which appeared to be of little concern to Store Management .There is no clear indication on the ATM as to who is operating it

The machine was used the day previously and no signs of damage where obvious It is is therefore clear that the the machine had been tamepered with on the 9th August 2018  and that one likely cause for the inconvenience was in fact interference with the mechanism  Store management made no attempt whatsoever to note , record , or inform the Police and it was left to a customer to create a Police Log

Fig 1 Burn Damage ATM Centre

Fig 2 Pry Marks Screwdriver etc

Tesco Front desk staff were approached  who were anything less than helpful stating that the machine and the money in it belonged to the Customers Bank
Despite no notification to that effect , and the facility being smothered by TESCO bank logos . TESCO BANK then claimed that the dispensing issue is RBS responsibility. ( Mean Call Wait Time 18 mins Total 22 call audits )

The issue of the defective machine was reported to staff including the Assistant Manager and in particular the Manager who were rude arrogant and to say the least beligerant. The ethos amongst management of lack of accountability and Group Think might work with a disenfranchised work force but it does not wash with Community and Customer the message to David Lewis CEO is you are only as good as your last customer and Dismissals have been known to have been exaxted at EGM Extraordinary General Meetings Take Note

Turning to the issue if the machine was tampered with see below then it would have been in everyone issue to review the security footage. TESCO are of course so sloppy they fail to conform to the direction of the law and expressly indicate CCTV is in force by way of correct signage

Moving on to other issues TESCO Buttershaw has had a track record of incidents involving customers being exposed to dangerous activity . It seems that TESCO do not take there duty of care seriously

Tesco Car Park in the Buttershaw store and I also believe across the board have no speed limit or restriction vehicles often enter the main pedestrian area at speeds in excess of 10 mph and there is NO advisory or prohibitive signage once again.

Having spoken to the store manager and assistant manger and used this store for over 20 years the quality and calibre of these individuals allegely , i believe is substantially lacking After one approach and two call outs for a duty manager who was no where to be seen . On the two occasions RS was called there was a 20 min delay and failing to turn up on duty in the first instance . In the second instance this manager then asked the customer to leave rather than deal with the issues and problems at hand . On matter of safety JO states he would not tackle individuals causing problems in his store as he does nt have a stab vest  but expects customers to shop in it . This is an astonishing state of affairs , and it seem s to have escaped TESCO's tiny mind set that they have a DUTY of CARE

TESCO claim that they are proactive in Community Crime which appear to be a marketing rouse all to often used by the company which preys on disadvantaged communities , or vulnerble on the pre-text that TESCO are given something back

In this matter there is little or no evidence of effective store management taking an interest on what happens in , on or around their premises , keeping it safe for both  Customers and Colleagues

The General Cleanliess of the store is plain for all to see.

In summary

  • Consistent breeches in duty of care such as to have impact on customer safety and confidence
  • Poor regard and Customer Service from Senior Management
  • Lack of attention to detail on facilities management ( Pavement Breeches , Zebra Crossing , Car Park Markings  and Speed Limit Signage )
  • General Cleanliness of Store evident throughout
  • Reduced range and increased price , lack of replenished value ranges , particularly in frozen section

John Smith15th October 2017 8:58 pm From Comments T&A)

Things like this have been going on at this store for a long long time. I've worked at this store and I can honestly say it's an absolutely awful area to work in.
It's not uncommon to see theft and fights at this store and in other stores in the area.

Whats Your experience of these managers ??

All feedback reviewed in confidence

Ms Rachel Saladin   Store Manager
Mr Jason O'Keefe   Trade Manager

In the matter ATM and Banking Issues
  • The issue has opened a full complaint to FSA - Financial Service Authority

In the managerial failure

  • The Issue is now rapidly escalating to HEAD OFFICE and CHAIRMANS OFFICE  via complaint which will be updated when dealt with
  • Why RS failed over two 20 min periods on call at the service desk as Duty Manager
  • Why RS failed to take the customer complaint on board and asked a customer to leave because a complaint was made
  • Why in the matter of the defective ATM was action not taken .
  • Why given it appeared the machine in proxity to retail premises  was fire damaged did RS not as suggested review the Store Cameras to make report as required in law  (duty of care )
  • Why did store employees give  incorrect and misleading  information about the ATM facility
  • Why was the manner and style of this manager abrasive rude and demeaning to a member of the public performing a civic duty
There is a substantive list of concerns to be re fered for investigation inckuding

  • who cleans it
  • who retains the security video footage
  • whether it has or requires Planning permission
  • who owns the car park it is in ( Dundee Informs it is not TESCOS car park :-)  !!!

It is not suprising that lack of joined up thinking and substantial overlap in service arrangement leads to a breakdown and undermining of a brand alegely I believe due to its own incompetency

Whose responsibility is it when ATM's go wrong ?
TESCO bank may maintain and fill them but the units are located on the store real estate
Store video security cameras and footage are collected by the store which for avoidance of doubt is a data subject for a customer experiencing an issue with a machine on the premises managed by the store manager

Finally ; in the management and overall operation of the store due regard should have been given to the criminal damage   24 hrs previous which caused the concerns to arise either by store security or the manager responsible for its safe operation

Finally , a customer should not have been told or given incorrect information by TESCO  to contact their bank over an issue arising out of TESCO failing to maintain their ATM's out of negligence

Finally, TESCO might own the Shabang but they are conducting a regulated activity which must conform to the FSA Codes of Conduct and both Banks also are party to the Governannce of  the LINK cash machine network

Finally , Dundee State TESCO do not own the car park . We will seek to establish , whether TESCO in whatever form ( BANK or STORE ) have planning permission for the siting of these machines . We will also pursue the issue relating to whom collects and processess the Security Footage and determine why in accordance with the law it is not apropriately Signed

Warning TESCO spin - Dont Buy it

TESCO say they play an active role in Community Policing. Beware Spin

I put it to customers

(i) That not lighting their car park at night actively promotes drug dealing on and around their premises

(ii) Viz If Tesco in whatever form own these ATM they should take reasonable measures to ensure the are safe and operational for customers

(iii) That failing to employ adequate levels of security contribute to a significant or uneccesary ammount of Resources that could be better used by and for the community not a commercial business

TESCO's penny pinching ploys keeping mangers in lead roles in order to pay for the significant damage of Executive Decision making - You may recall those that were dealt with by the courts.  Link TO  FRAUD CHARGES

TESCO can not be a leach on the belly of a vulnernable Community taking up community police resources which could be better deployed in the Community rather than a Profit making Share holding Company

Is Your Community About to be Sold Out ?

****UPDATE****
We are currently investigating the ownership of the Car Park at TESCO Buttershaw . We have approached TESCO for comment but to date has been lacking. The Car Park constitutes a very large land foot print which may have development potential which may be one reason why 2139 appears to be running down its stock levels and staff

*******UPATE********

TESCO retail have been slow to escalate this in terms of outcome

We have spoken to 17 members of staff regarding the store management

We have 8  Whistleblowing Cases supporting operational concerns with the store management which will be reported in due course 2 of which may allegely is our belief may lead to Employment Tribunal on Bullying and Harassment

We now have feed back from 12 customers on service and store related issues ranging from unclear pricing to limitted stock and replenishment particularly frozen and disproportionate pricing  exluding low end value products out of stock

Communication from the RBS indicate a full responsibility on TESCO to have dealt with the BANKING issues

UPDATE

28/09/2018  Matter passed to Area Manager for investigation including allegations properly to be undertaken by the Personnel Department . To date no outcome , brief , or update

TESCO BANK Buttershaw2139 ATM

This post has been added to an adjunct to the Retail Concerns highlighted below

Complaints have now been formally lodged with

TESCO BANK
HALIFAX
RBS

with a View to Furthering Complaint with the

FCA - Finanacial Service Ombudsman /   Financial Conduct Authority

ASA Advertising Standards Ahency

Local Authority Licencing & Planning Issues

The machine contains no definitive messaging on who owns or manages it or what number to call if it is defective

The CCTV camera faces obliquely the customer and keypad

The Key Issues arising out of this facility at the moment are given it is covered with TESCO BANK advertising including all 4 faces of the unit and on the Till Receipt produced by the RBS Machine

Looking at the top of the facility it is clear that the structure is labelled as TESCO BANK and at the side iys ADVERTISING TESCO Bank if the ATM is managed by the RBS then this is misleading

TESCO BANK have been asked to clarify the nature of the structure as to who owns or  manages it given TESCO claim that the ATM function belongs to RBS

  • Advertising who owns and manages the site facility
  • Where the video feeds end up
  • Who is responsible for the Subject Access request
  • Does it have Planning Permission
